The Beekman Youth Soccer Club (BYSC) invites you to join us and play soccer,
a game that promotes physical activity, teamwork and quick thinking that has
international appeal. Primarily, the BYSC provides an opportunity for children
from ages 4 on up to learn the skills, strategy, joy and ultimately, the satisfaction
of playing soccer.
Registration for in-house teams is open to all players from ages 4 to 18.
A player may register for the first time at any age, it doesn't matter if
you've played or not before. The spring and fall seasons are each normally
about 8 weeks long.
When a player registers he or she receives a uniform to keep with a reversible
jersey, socks and shorts, and is assigned to a team based on his or her age.
Games are played on Saturday mornings at the Town Center Park fields, with
a practice or two held during the week. For 4 and 5 year olds, games are played
3 vs 3 (called micro soccer) on very smalls field with very small goals, which
lets all the players get lots of touches on the ball and keeps everyone involved.
Games at this level are as much fun for parents to watch as it is for the
kids to play. As the players get older and bigger and their skills improve,
more players are added to the game and the fields and goals get bigger until
as teenagers games are played on full size fields under normal FIFA laws of
the game.
Though the BYSC has been around for many years, recently it has been growing
rapidly due to the general growth in Beekman. This growth has provided an
opportunity for the club to improve. Collective training, a progressive method
of instructing the very youngest players and providing parents an opportunity
to learn how to coach, is used for the Under-5 and Under-6 age groups. Training
sessions hosted by the BYSC and provided by the National Soccer Coaches Association
of America are now providing our coaches with opportunities to refine their
skills. The club holds a yearly tournament, The Beekman Cup, for travel teams.
The Town Center Park fields on Clove Valley Road are a tremendous asset to
the club.
For older players, the BYSC is a member of the 15,000+ member East Hudson
Youth Soccer League with over 40 participating soccer clubs. The BYSC has
several travel teams that compete against teams from clubs in other nearby
towns during the regular spring and fall seasons, and at selected tournaments
in the region. To join a travel team, a player must try out and be accepted
on a team in May or June.
The club offers opportunities for youth 12 and older to become a soccer referee,
which requires taking a class and passing a test. Becoming a soccer referee
is a challenging but rewarding job that develops quick thinking, self control,
management, physical fitness and ultimately, tremendous self-confidence. Young
referees start by officiating very young players and then move up to referee
older division games based on the evaluation of their performance.
The club also sponsors a men's team during the summer.
All the officers, coaches, and directors of the club are volunteers. For
more information, call the BYSC Hotline at 223-2840 for the latest announcements
or send an e-mail to the Club
President if you have any specific questions. Or join us at a monthly
meeting, held every 2nd Thursday of the month at 7:30 at the Beekman Town
Hall. Come join the fun on Saturdays at Town Center Park!
